The interpreter of Maladies

Foreshadowing is the literary device used to show what is going to happen in the future. In the story, Mr.Kapasi notices that his boy is pale. This may foreshadow that the boy is sick and will die.

The Red Convertible

1. The setting is in Chippewa. It is a city setting and the main character works in a cafe.
2. He thinks it changes people and not in a good way. He says his brother has changed and will never be the same. One minute he is happy and back to normal and another moment goes by and he is mad and pissed off.
3. The symbolism between the brother and the red convertible is that when it was young it was bright, red, and shinny. As it went through more ruff times and got older it wasn't has vibrant or of as much value anymore. The same with the brother.
4. The 1980s was the time period after the world wars and the Vietnam war. People were torn, families were destroyed and people didn't want to go on. Soldiers that came back were not in great shape and their lives would be changed forever.

She lies to him and tells him that she doesn't see it so it can live freely. Sylvia sees the cow as her friend and talks to it. Blog 2: The body of Christopher Creed Ending

I believe that Chris Creed is dead somewhere outside of the town of Steepelon or is alive somewhere out there. The fact that the body was not found was a bad ending. I did enjoy reading the book however. It kept my attention while I was reading it. The response on Torey's blog page is either 1. Creed outside the town alive or 2. someone venting their thoughts about him and what happened.

Woobees

On page 185 Torey says, "I didn't care, the sound of my guitar made me calmer, somehow. Guitars are like woobees..."Torey's definition of a woobee is a security blanket. Torey needs something to calm him down because he is upset and hurt by the way people are treating Bo, Ali, and even himself. Torey is afraid of what is going to happen in the future and he is afraid of being charged because of the call. He also is having problems with Leandra. She keeps asking him what is wrong and he flips on her. She gets upset and refuses to talk to her.

Chapters 2 & 3 Christopher Creed

"This hard- stepping mom and this pasty- mouthed father are as clueless as two aliens. Chris Creed is about grounded and normal as a chimpanzee. How could people live their whole lives with their kid and not know this?" (pg.25 ch.2) This quote was said by Torey; a mental thought. Mrs. Creed was thanking everyone for searching in the woods during church mass.

Mrs.Creed explains that her and her husband had no idea that her son was being bullied. Torey was saying how he doesn't understand how parents wouldn't know about big things in their children's' lives without being bad parents.
