Ballad Poem By Lonnie Adrift

I'll tell a tale, a thrilling tale of love beyond compare
I knew a lad not long ago more gorgeous than any I've seen.
And in his eyes I found myself a'falling in love with the swain.
Oh, the glorious fellow I met by the ocean with eyes of deep- sea green!
He was a rugged sailor man with eyes of deep-sea green,
And I a maid, a tavern maid! Whose living was serving beer.
So with a kiss and with a wave, off on his boat he sailed
And left me on the dock, the thief! Without my heart, oh dear!
And with a heart that's lost at sea, I go living still.
I still am now still serving beer in that tavern by the sea.
And though the pay check's still the same, the money won't go as far
For now I feed not just myself, but my little one and me!
So let that be a lesson, dear, and keep your heart safely hid.
I gave mine to a sailor thief with gorgeous eyes of green.
Save yours for a sweeter lad who makes the land his home.
Ah me! If only I'd never met that sailor by the sea!

Blog: Chapter 24: The conversation with Mr.Antolini

When given a lecture like Holden was given by Mr. Antolini annoys me. Most of the time when I'm given this lecture I know the answers or outcome of it. Mr. Antolini explains to Holden that he must apply himself in school and he will find something that he really enjoys. He says that if he finds something that he likes that he will learn and be interested and most importantly try. This is something I personally don't need to hear because I know it. I don't like when people repeat themselves.

Blog:Chapter 20 & 21 Holden's internal conflicts

Holden pretended to have been shot after leaving the Wicker Bar. He says that there is a bullet in his stomach and holds it tight to "stop the bleeding". Holden wasn't really shot and isn't bleeding. Holden must likely does this because he wants attend. He also has a stomach ache because of the amount of alcohol he consumed. Being drunk could be also why he acts this way. Alcohol changes your perception. Holden also might be saying this in a non-literal way. He could mean that the loneliness and being drunk hurts him.

Blog: 19 catcher, The wicker Bar

Holden hates to see Luce go because Holden has called everyone in his number book and doesn't have anyone else o call. Holden feels lonely and has no one else to go to. He is in the city alone and tried meeting new people. The girls he danced with had no interest in talking to him and the children he played with on the seesaw didn't want him there either. Holden feels not only lonely but out of place. He feels like he can't fit in.

blog: chapter 15 holden and mercutio

Holden identifies with Mercutio instead of Tybalt because Mercutio was innocent and didn't provoke his own death.  He probably sees Mercutio as Allie. Allie died of leukemia which he didn't give himself. Mercutio was stabbed and died; he didn't make this decision. Tybalt was wild and killed Mercutio. He didn't give Mercutio the chance to live and make something of himself. This means Mercutio was innocent and Tybalt was guilty. Holden talks so greatly of Allie and his family. " My brother D.B.'s a writer and all, and my brother Allie, the one that died, that I told you about, was a wizard. I'm really the only really dumb one." This shows how he believes that Allie should have had his chance to live.

Blog: ch. 12 conversation with Horowitz

Horowitz is a rude, nasty, unfriendly man. He doesn't care to talk to Holden about the ducks or anything else. He just wants to get Holden to where he wants to go and get paid. Holden on the other hand is over friendly and invites the cab driver to go and drink with him. Holden is trying to make conversation even though some of what he says are lies.

Blog: Chapter 8 Letter to Ernie from Mrs.Morrow

Dear Ernie,
I was on the train the other day late at night. I went and got on the train bumped into a classmate of yours. His name was "Rudolf Smith" but I know it is Holden Cauffield. He told me that you were a very popular kid in school and everyone wanted you to run. He also said he that you turned that opportunity down. I don't believe him though. Holden also said that he was going to South America with his grandmother. I want to hear what you have to say about all of this. Please explain to me what is going on.
Love
Mom

Blog: Allie's writing poems continued

Above the sky unrolls its telegram
immense and wordless, simply understood;
you've made your mark like birdracks in the sand-
now make the air your lungs your livelihood.
see how each wave arrives at last to heave
itself upon the beach and vanish. Breathe ~Ros Barber~

Breakaway from the chains and shackles
which from you, your life, take away;
Breathe again; this time without constraint
And the dreams in your eyes: Realize ~Siddharth Anand~

Lives in the sea
Loved by children on the beach

Blog: Ch. 5-7 Allie's Writing Assignment

The object is smooth and white. If you listen to some other kinds of this object, you can hear the ocean. People go and look for them. I smell like salt water.

Blog 5: Catcher in the Rye

The shooting of John Lennon was on December 8, 1980. It was outside the Dakota building in New York City. He as well as his wife Yoko Ono lived there. Mark Chapman murdered him and after shooting him, he stayed at the scene until police arrested him. He bought the gun at a gun store in Honolulu Hawaii.

Mark Chapman had very odd behaviors before the shooting. He live in Hawaii and worked at a hospital. Then moved to a security job where he put his name down as John Lennon. Chapman's friends say that he was a big Beatles fan and was upset when they broke up. After the shooting his didn't leave like many people would, but stayed, sat down, and read Catcher in the Rye.

Chapman most likely felt a connection with Holden from Catcher in the Rye because they both have been in a mental institution. Also they are both jealous, unstable, and unhappy with their lives. Their families do not have much of a role in their lives. They are both social pariahs. Chapman and Holden both have violent acts that don't faze them. Instead of leaving the scene or acting on it, Chapman did nothing but read after murdering John Lennon. When Holden jumps on Stradlater he isn't fazed by it either. They both are carefree in their own worlds.

Blog 4: Catcher in the Rye, Ch. 1&2

"Only seniors were allowed to bring girls with them." This shows that the school is strict. Holden is jealous of this and feels that he should be able to. He doesn't really care what Pency Prep says, he is leaving and is carefree. Holden is also a troublemaker and has an unsteady life style.

Have you ever felt jealous of someone older than you?

Blog 3: Pre-thinking about Catcher in the Rye

Being "phony" is to be fake, unreal, and not yourself. Adults are more phony than children because children don't understand not being yourself. Many adults are afraid to be themselves and show off who they are. They are sometimes embarrassed at what they are and what they like. When they are embarrassed, they tend to act differently so people don't know what they are really like. That is being "phony". Another "phony" thing that people do is do something because their friends do. This could be a serious or non serious thing that they follow.

Blog 2: Montana 1948, Epilogue

The death of Julian and Wesley
Julian and Wesley died of a stroke. Julian died first, than later Wesley. Losing both family members to this was detrimental to David's emotional level. He was upset more at the fact that his father died than his grandfather.

Marie Little Soldier
In this part of the Epilogue, there is a flask back about Ronnie Tall Bear and Marie. They are playing football with David. David was too tired to continue so they went back to the house and went in through the garage door. Gail gave the three cider to drink and the flask back was over. This symbolizes how David misses Marie Little Soldier and remembers the good times they had together.

Blog 1: Montana 1948, Part III, pgs. 141-162

Of part II in Montana 1948, Larry Watson sets the mood for the characters by changing the description of Frank. He does this by changing him from being the nice guy, who everyone knows and loves, to the mean, scary guy that parents keep their children away from. The Hayden family, Gail, Wesley, and David see him as a criminal, while the town/ Native Americans see him as worse. They see him as a sex offender, murder, and criminal. Wesley tries and defend his brother from humiliation as well as the media, but at the same time, brings in  justice. Gail wants to lock him up in jail so he serves his time, but at the same time wants to get him out of her house and get her and her family away from danger. The grandparents fight Wesley claiming that he should be loyal to his family because they are brothers, and let him go. David is confused cause of his young age, but at the same time understands the situation at hand. David wants to bring peace to his family and bring things back to normal. We, as the readers, understand that it will not be the same. Because David is only twelve, he cannot take all the the information and mental and emotional pain. All of this shows how emotional and physical levels can change based on everyday situations.

At the end of Montana 1948, Wesley finds his brother Frank dead in the basement. Frank cut himself with pieces of broken glass. The night before, Wesley and Gail stayed up listening to Frank in the basement throwing and braking all of the spare food containers against the wall. He shattered all of the glass bottles and cut himself with a piece. Frank cut his wrists and that night bleed to death. Wesley went down stairs once it was quiet to check on him to find him dead on the basement floor. He was covered in blood. For the first time he included David in the "adult talk" and told him to go tell his mother, but not to let her come down. David was shocked that his uncle was dead, but he was thrilled that he was given an adult responsibility that required being mature and knowledgeable.
